State Chair Emeritus Clark Lee, Esq.

A first generation American, Clark has been a grassroots activist and public affairs professional for 20 years and counting, working to elect Democrats; register Democrats; train candidates, staff, and volunteers; and protect voting rights. He is a member of the State Bar of California.

In 2020, Clark is the Director of Housing for the Democratic National Convention Committee in Milwaukee. Previously, he was the Statewide Political Director of the California Democratic Party (CDP) through the historic 2017-2018 Democratic blue wave victories, overseeing campaigns and elections, party affairs, and expanding constituent engagement to include outreach in targeted communities featuring 10 languages.

In 2016, Clark was the Director of Party Leader Outreach for the Democratic National Convention Committee in Philadelphia and the New Hampshire State Director of NextGen Climate Action Committee. For nearly a decade, he served as the full-time Director of Communications & Political Affairs of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party (LACDP), the largest local Democratic Party entity in the nation, representing nearly 2.5 million Democrats across 88 cities, working to elect Democrats, advocate for Democratic issues, and turn red areas blue.

Clark has held key roles on many statewide, federal, legislative and local campaigns, such as Judy Chu for Congress, Ed Chau for Assembly, Mike Eng for Assembly, Alliance for a Better California, AFL-CIO – Los Angeles County, and Governor Gray Davis.

As an activist, Clark served three terms as State Chair of the California Democratic Party (CDP) Asian Pacific Islander Caucus, working with the Caucus leadership and activists on many campaign mobilizations and translating the entire CDP website, making CDP the first state party in the nation to feature an Asian language website. He was two-term CDP Region 15 Director, the only Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) serving as CDP officer at the time; District-Level Delegate for the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte; CDP Executive Board Member; CDP API Caucus Southern Chair and Southern Vice Chair, CDP Platform Immigration Plank Co-Chair; LACDP Regional Vice Chair; California Young Democrats/California College Democrats Communications Director; College Democrats of America Western Region Director; Los Angeles League of Conservation Voters Treasurer/Board Member; and Truman National Security Project Political Partner.

In the community, Clark served on the Los Angeles County Information Systems Commission, the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Voting Systems Assessment Project Advisory Committee, and the California Secretary of State’s statutory Ballot Translation Advisory Body.

An award-winning political and public affairs professional, he is a recipient of the CDP API Caucus Trailblazer Award; the CDP Statewide John F. Kennedy Jr. Award for Outstanding Public Service; the CDP Region 16 Democrat of the Year; the LACDP Pat Eastman Volunteer of the Year; the LACDP Franklin & Eleanor Roosevelt Democrat of the Year; the Claremont McKenna College Philip Roland Prize for Excellence in Public Affairs; the New Leaders Council 40 Under 40 Emerging Leaders Award; the National Association of Asian Pacifics in Politics & Public Affairs Inaugural 40 Under 40 Honoree; the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC) Inaugural 40 Under 40 Award and several AAPC Pollie Awards; and the Campaigns & Elections Magazine’s Reed Awards and Democratic “Rising Star.”
Clark graduated from Claremont McKenna College with Honors and received his Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern Law School. He is fluent in Chinese Mandarin and Taiwanese.
