Treasurer Hon. Shawn Kumagai

Dublin Council Member Shawn Kumagai is a third-generation veteran. His mother served in the Army Nurse Corps, his grandfather served during World War II in the Army Air Corps, and his uncle is an Air Force Academy graduate. He has served the past 20 years in the United States Navy (10 years active duty and 10 years in the reserves) as a linguist. He is currently serving as a Master Chief Petty Officer in the Navy Reserve and is assigned to an intelligence unit in Camp Parks.

After settling in Dublin, Shawn became very active in political organizing. In 2017 he was elected to represent Democrats in Assembly District 16 as a delegate to the California Democratic Party (CDP). On the CDP Asian Pacific Islander Caucus, he previously served as the State Secretary and Northern Secretary.

He was also a founding board member for the Lambda Democratic Club of Contra Costa County and as an Organizing for Action fellow he worked as a volunteer organizer throughout the region on immigration issues. Shawn currently works as District Director for Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan and serves as her alternate on the Alameda County Democratic Central Committee.
